Veneers / Laminates

Dental Veneers are wafer thin shells made of tooth colored materials (either from porcelain or resin composite materials) that are custom made and bonded to the teeth to improve their appearance (changing the color, shape, size or length). Porcelain veneers resist stain better than resin veneers mimicking the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. If there are cracks, stains or gaps between the teeth then porcelain veneers are perfect solution to cosmetically and structurally improving the appearance of the teeth.

Harder than tooth enamel – resisting wear and stains for many years. When firmly bonded to a sturdy substructure, such as a tooth, it becomes very strong and durable. Veneers can be used to correct stains, discoloured, worn, chipped or cracked, and misaligned teeth.

What do I expect during the veneer appointment ?

Porcelain veneers can be completed in 2 appointments spaced between a week apart. The visit includes a thorough consultation where the dental plan is formed. Then the teeth are shaped and prepared for the veneers. Impressions of the teeth are taken and temporary veneers are made. During the second visit, the veneers prepared by the lab are permanently bonded to the teeth. Before bonding them, patients have the opportunity to have further adjustments made to the colour or shape as after they are bonded, they are permanently fixed.

What dental problems can be fixed with veneers ?

Discolored teeth – tetracycline stains, excessive fluoride or other causes, presence of large fillings that have discolored teeth. Teeth that are worn out, chipped or broken. Misaligned, uneven or irregularly shaped teeth. Teeth with gaps between them.

Do dental veneers require special care ?

Dental veneers do not require any special care. Continue to follow good oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing and rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash as you normally do. Porcelain veneers resist stain unlike resin veneers where you would be advised to avoid stain causing foods and beverages like tea, coffee, red wine etc. Porcelain is glass and can crack if very strong forces are applied. It is advised to avoid chewing ice, hard nuts, popcorn kernels, candy apples as well as avoid using the teeth to open packages, etc. There will likely be some sensitivity to hot and cold food and beverages for a short time due to having a thin layer of enamel removed. This should disappear in a few days. Avoiding hot and cold foods is recommended for the first few days to allow the veneers to settle.

Benefits of Veneers / Laminates

Hides Imperfections: From dark stains to chips to gaps in between teeth, veneers can sufficiently hide imperfections that can be difficult to correct. As a result, the overall aesthetic of the smile is enhanced.

Look Natural: Porcelain veneers from Imagine Advanced Dental Arts are customized to blend seamlessly with the rest of your smile, from size to shape to color. For the most natural-looking results, our cosmetic dentists match veneers to surrounding teeth.

Added Protection: In addition to hiding imperfections, veneers can strengthen and protect vulnerable teeth that have chips or cracks. This is possible due to the durable, ceramic material that composes a veneer as it covers your natural tooth.

Easy Maintenance: Taking care of veneers and preserving their lifespan is as easy as normal dental hygiene. Regular brushing and flossing should adequately maintain your restoration.

Long-Lasting Results: Porcelain veneers are designed to last for years, even decades. They go beyond treating your smile concerns — veneers can protect your teeth for a smile you can enjoy for years to come!
